Choose the right series
How many seasons does the original Thomas & Friends have? The original television programme has 24 numbered series. The main model era is series 1–11; series 12 mixes models and CGI; series 13–24 use full CGI. Films and specials are separate from that season count.
Are the old Thomas series and All Engines Go the same? They share familiar names, but All Engines Go is a separate 2D reimagining launched in 2021. It should not be treated as the next numbered season of the original programme. Use the full series title when looking for a particular episode.
What is Railway Stories? Thomas & Friends: Railway Stories is the name of Thomas’s new 2026 screen chapter. The official Really Helpful Engines trailer is here. Start with the trailer, then check what the announcement confirms for viewing and what still depends on your country. The English trailer announcement gives 17 September 2026 for YouTube and 30 September 2026 for Netflix. It does not confirm availability in every country or language.
Identify the character
Are Sir Topham Hatt and the Fat Controller the same person? In the television series, Sir Topham Hatt is the railway manager also known as the Fat Controller. He assigns work and runs the North Western Railway. His black top hat and formal clothes identify his appearance; he is a human character, not an engine.
Why is Emily sometimes shown without number 12? Emily appeared without a number for much of the original television series. She receives number 12 in the story Emily to the Rescue in series 24. An earlier unnumbered image can therefore be accurate; check the episode and design era before calling it a mistake.
Explore Sodor and official videos
Is Sodor a real island? Sodor is the fictional island where most Thomas stories take place. It draws on real British railway ideas and landscapes, but the story island is not a real travel destination. A story map helps identify places such as Knapford and Tidmouth.
Where can I watch official Thomas videos? The official Thomas & Friends YouTube channels publish episodes, clips and songs. Available videos, dubbing and streaming catalogues differ by country and can change. Check the official channel and the listing in your region; a guide cannot promise that every season is available worldwide.
